Cat Daily Water Intake Calculator

Cats have a low natural thirst drive, making adequate hydration vital for preventing chronic kidney disease (CKD) and feline lower urinary tract disease (FLUTD). Calculate your cat's exact moisture requirements.

Why Feline Hydration is Clinically Critical

Domestic cats evolved from the African wildcat (*Felis lybica*), desert hunters that derived nearly all their water intake directly from prey. Because of this evolutionary heritage, cats have a remarkably weak thirst response.

1. Preventing Urinary Crystals (FLUTD)

Concentrated urine allows struvite and calcium oxalate crystals to precipitate in the feline bladder. Ample water intake dilutes urine specific gravity and flushes the bladder regularly.

2. Supporting Feline Kidneys

Chronic Kidney Disease affects over 30% of cats over 10 years old. Adequate daily hydration reduces the filtration burden on aging nephrons.

3. Whisker Fatigue & Wide Bowls

Cats dislike their sensitive whiskers touching the sides of narrow bowls. Use shallow, wide stainless steel or ceramic dishes, or circulating pet fountains.
