Welcome to MaunaPet. Respecting your privacy and protecting your personal data is a priority for us. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and share your information when you use our mobile application ("App") and any associated services.

1. Information we collect

To provide you with the best experience for managing your pet's life, we collect the following types of information:

• Account information: when you create an account, we collect your email, name, and password (stored securely and encrypted). You may also authenticate using third-party services like Apple or Google. If you do, we receive basic profile information (email, name) from these providers in accordance with your privacy settings.
• Pet data: information you provide about your pets — names, breeds, comprehensive health records, nutrition logs (calorie and water intake), allergies, weight history, vaccination histories, generated PDF reports, and photos.
• AI chat data: text inputs, questions, or prompts you send to our AI Assistant. This data is processed to generate conversational responses.
• Calendar data: if you grant the App calendar permission, we only read or write events specifically related to your pet's reminders (e.g., vet appointments). We do not read your personal non-pet events.
• Usage & device: diagnostic data, IP addresses, crash logs (via Sentry), and device type, used to improve app stability.
• Analytics: we use PostHog to collect anonymized usage analytics and session recordings, with text inputs masked. No analytics data is used for advertising or cross-app tracking.

2. How we use your information

• To create and maintain your secure MaunaPet account.
• To store your pet's health records and organize their timeline.
• To process AI chat messages and provide intelligent insights about your pets.
• To send you push notifications or calendar alerts for important reminders.
• To process premium subscriptions (handled securely via Apple, Google Play, and RevenueCat).

3. Sharing your information

We do not sell your personal data. We only share information with third-party service providers who help us operate the App:

• Authentication providers: if you use Social Login, we securely interact with Apple or Google to verify your identity.
• Cloud infrastructure: secure databases that store your account and pet profiles.
• AI processing: when you use the AI chat, your pet's health data (name, species, breed, age, weight, medical conditions, medications, vaccination status, dietary information, and nutrition goals) and any images you upload are sent to Anthropic Inc. (United States) for AI analysis. We use Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission to ensure GDPR compliance for international data transfers. AI chat messages are retained for 2 years to improve service quality. This data is not used to train Anthropic's global AI models.
• Calendar provider: if you enable calendar sync, reminder titles, due dates, and notes are written to the calendar you select on your device. Your platform or calendar provider may sync those events according to your device and account settings. We don't upload your personal non-pet calendar events to MaunaPet.
• Payment processors: for premium subscriptions, transaction details are securely handled by Apple (In-App Purchases), Google Play Billing, and RevenueCat. We don't store your card information.
• Analytics & crash reporting: Sentry helps us track and fix bugs. PostHog collects anonymized usage analytics and session recordings (with sensitive fields masked), hosted in the EU.

4. Data retention & deletion

We retain your information as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from inside the App: Profile → Account → Delete Account. Once confirmed, your account, pet profiles, health logs, and chat histories will be permanently deleted from our active servers within 30 days. Deleting your MaunaPet account does not automatically cancel an active Apple App Store or Google Play subscription; subscriptions must be managed separately through the applicable store.

4.1 Retention periods

We automatically delete certain types of data after specific retention periods to comply with data protection regulations:

• AI chat messages: deleted after 2 years from creation.
• Notifications: read notifications are deleted after 90 days.
• Subscription events: retained 7 years for financial and tax compliance, then deleted.
• Authentication tokens: expired or revoked tokens are deleted after 30 days.
• Health records: retained indefinitely while your account is active (medical necessity); deleted when you delete your account.

5. Security

We implement industry-standard security measures, including HTTPS encryption (SSL/TLS) for data in transit and encrypted passwords in our database, to protect your personal information.

6. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We'll notify you of major changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page or via an in-app notification.
